Fibre Artists use every type of fibre known to humankind to create art. It is a very versatile medium. In my own fibre arts group, members work with commercial and hand-dyed fabrics, yarns, rovings, cheesecloth, papers, inks, paint, beads, natural 'found' objects, plastics, even animal hair.... They stitch and felt, weave, make costumes, quilt, create mixed media art, bead work and everything in between. What I love about fibre, aside from the tactile element, is that we can always try new materials and techniques in our work. My own work is based on hand stitching and art quilting. In recent years I have been experimenting with works mounted on stretched canvas and I have also incorporated paint and inks into my work on a regular basis.
